In our day to day life we see many advertisements some have
no effect on us but other change us totally. We all are got emotionally manipulated
with good and attractive advertisement. As the famous quote elaborate that:-
“One who believes that one of the greatest dangers of
advertising is not that of misleading people, but that of boring them to death.
“
The above stated statement proved true by famous and well-known Company
NESTLE
The Swiss multinational Nestle has been accused of violating
ethical marketing codes and manipulating customers with misleading nutritional
clients about its Baby milk formula .The study, which analysed over 70 Nestle’s
baby milk products in 40 countries, also found that Nestle often ignored its
own nutritional advice in its advertising.
HISTORY:-
During decades, Nestle was berated all over the world. The
reason was its aggressive advertising campaign of the bottle – feeding in
developing countries. It leads to death
of the infants. The baby formula was invented in 1867 and was widely popular in
western countries: But in the 1960's, the formula sales went down. Nestle turned to Asia, Africa and South
America Then sent representative in nurse uniform to hospitals and houses of
young mother. The promoters gave samples for free. And instructed women on how
to prepare product .They also gave Presents to doctors and it was expended that
the doctors would advise to use it instead of breastfeeding .And if women stops
breast feeding milk dries up. So they become dependent on the formula. Its price
was too high. This is the main strategy to increase their buyers which is totally
unethical.
We now came to know that company manipulate consumer
emotional responses to sell a variety of products, but this behavior is
unethical to every aspect when it come to the health and life of vulnerable babies.
WORLD HEALTH ORGANISATION (WHO) banned the promotion of this
health threatened product but Swiss firm insists that they are following the
code implemented by” national government”.
RESPONSES:-
Now a Nestle's spokesperson
responded by saying the company supported the WHO recommendations and believed
that breast milk was, wherever possible, 'the ideal source of nutrition for
babies' - but did not answer specific questions about the new study.
The spokesperson added:
"Where needed or chosen by parents, we offer high quality, innovative,
science-based nutritional products for mothers and infants from conception to
two years of age.
"We market these products in a responsible way at all times, and
the claims made on our products are based on sound scientific evidence."
Official statement
The company will be issuing an official statement on the report in the
coming days.
According to a spokesman: - "The report
raises important points, which we want to assess in detail. We will respond to
the concerns and recommendations of the report in the coming days."
According to my opinion this very flagrant, that such a widely known company disregard the life of infant. Even if they market their product first give all the precautions or we can say that state all the truth about the product. The result leads to death of many infant. In the times, United States Agency for International Development official, Dr. Stephen Joseph blamed reliance on baby formula for million infant deaths every year through malnutrition and diarrhoea diseases. A Lahore - based citizen has filed a first Information Report (FIR) against the food giant Nestle Pakistan over the death of his one-month -old -daughter who consumed Nestles formula milk; Lactogen .The report reveals that the child death occurred due to Shortness of breath. The company said that it is Confident that it does not have anything to do with this accident.
